At
eight weeks, we perform the feather test, which allows us to make sure the
puppies are interested in game birds. It also helps us in the selection of our
future field dogs in combination with the Campbell test. This test involves
attaching a partridge wing to a stick and nylon thread. We then move the lure and
shake it until the puppy sight points. Since it is a sight point and not a
scent point, this test is done only once in the dog’s life. No repetition of
this exercise is recommended. The expected results are either:
-
The
puppy immediately points at the wing;
-
The
puppy points after a few tries;
-
The
puppy refuses to point and rushes to the wing.
Throughout the adoption
process (before, during and after), we remain available to answer your
questions, whether it’s about home puppy training, basic obedience, feeding or
hunting dog training.
